Happy 3rd Birthday, Maggie!

It's very hard to believe that our Maggie Lynn is 3 years old today!  She brings so much joy to our lives- we are so blessed.  Here's a look at what's Maggie is up to at 3 years old:

Maggie is getting so big.  She weighs 36 pounds (90th percentile) and is 37 1/4 inches tall (50th percentile).  She is wearing size 3T-4T pants, 3T-5T shirts, and size 9 1/2 shoes.  Just like Aaron when he was her age, Maggie really only likes to wear "comfy" clothes and prefers to choose her own outfits.  (Jeans are NOT her idea of a good time.  The other day when I put some jeans on her, she attempted to do the splits and said, "But Mom, I can't move or do this in these tight pants!"  Hard to argue with that.)

Maggie is a great eater- she loves her fruits and veggies another other healthy foods, but also has a sweet tooth (like her Mama)! There's not much that Maggie won't try, but some days and meals she eats more than others.  The funniest thing about meal time with Maggie is that she will eat a little and talk the first 10 minutes of the meal and then when everyone else is finishing up, she'll start really eating!)  Some of Maggie's favorite foods are salads, watermelon, cereal, pizza, french fries, and any kind of muffin or donut.

Maggie has been potty trained since well before she turned 2 and is still wearing a pull up at night.

Maggie continues to have really great speech and language skills, much to the delight of her mother!  She speaks in long sentences and loves to try out new words that she hears.  (A few weeks ago, she went to the window and saw that it was snowing outside.  She said to me, "Mommy, it's snowing outside.  Well actually it's just flurries!)  We're always amazed by the things that she says and all of the vocabulary that she has!  She has a few developmental speech errors, like the R and TH sounds, but is already perfecting most of her S and L blends.  She is still trying to get her pronouns figured out, but they're coming!  (She has I/me/he/she/they figured out, but messes up him/her/them/they at times.)

Maggie knows all of her basic colors, can count to about 20 usually, can recite the alphabet, name her basic shapes, and is learning to label the letters by name. She is learning Spanish at school and can count to 10, label basic colors and animals, and sing some songs in Spanish!  Maggie loves to read books and will sit for long periods of time and "read" books to herself or sit with us while we read to her.  She LOVES to sing, play "store" (with her cash register and shopping cart), build Legos with Daddy & Aaron, play games on Daddy's iPad, have tea parties, color/draw, play games (Sock monkey game, The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel, Pengaloo), play with play dough, and play "dance class".  Her favorite tv shows are Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First, Jake & the Neverland Pirates, and Octonauts.

Maggie is very social and enjoys being around other kids.  She's very affectionate and greets her family and friends with big hugs.  Maggie loves her brother and plays very well with him and they are best pals.  She is tough and is not easily hurt, probably thanks to her brother!

Maggie sleeps from 7:30/8 at night till about 6/6:30 in the morning.  She generally stays in her bed, but at times will end up in our room.  When she wants to sleep with us, she will come to my side of the bed and tap me on the shoulder and put her hand out to ask me to help her up into our bed!  If I tell her to go back to her own bed, she will usually ask for a hug or a kiss and head back downstairs to her own room.  She naps every day at school for between 1-2 hours, but really doesn't nap well at home on the weekends.

Maggie is almost always happy, but has some "naughty" times as well.  She is not as good about sitting in time out as Aaron was (we think probably because she didn't get as "trained" as he did) and gets in trouble for not serving her time outs appropriately (standing up, moving around, etc.) She is generally a very good listener, uses her nice manners, and likes to please her parents/teachers.  She can easily be talked out of a bad mood and is a good helper.

Maggie brings so much joy to our lives and we feel very lucky that God blessed us with the gift of Maggie!

A few recent Maggie funnies:

* When you ask Maggie when her birthday is, she will almost always tell you "March seven fifteenth"

* When Claire was visiting, she asked Maggie if she would share something with her.  Claire said, "Maggie, can I have a turn with that?"  Maggie looked at her and said, "Only if you say please!"
